I love working with leather!! The start of my leather-working process has been very time consuming but so much fun!
First up, I created casts of my husband and editor's torso/arm/leg so that I can work without them standing there for eternity lol. To make a cast of an arm, for example, first cover the arm COMPLETELY with plastic bags. Secure them in place with scotch tape. Next, wrap the entire arm in duct tape--two layers. Then cut the duct tape and bags off together, half-inch by half-inch. You should put your finger in the cast where you're cutting as a buffer so that you don't accidentally stab your model. (My editor kept thinking I was stabbing her with the scissors but it was just my incredibly sharp nails hehe.) Finally, remove the cut cast from the person, tape it back together, and stuff it firmly with plastic bags! Tada!
I made paper pattern pieces for each leather garment. This one in the picture is part of Navon's gauntlet, but I also made pieces for his entire chest, hips, straps, etc...
Tracing each individual piece onto the leather took FOREVER! I am so sad because I retraced Eldaeus' boots at least four times (three hours of work!!), and then had to get rid of them anyway because I had forgotten about part of Jikun's armor!! Stupid Jikun.
Finally, my wonderful hubby cut all of the pieces out!! Next up is carving the designs and textures!
And through it all, my adorable sweet Link kept me company.
