Hey Soplings! The month of January was a pretty great one for trying new books, movies, and tv shows and I have the best of the best to share with you from my experience!
A Fortunate Review of Unfortunate Events
5/5 [Dark Comedy, TV series] Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
This screen adaption of "Lemony Snicket's" A Series of Unfortunate Events (found on Netflix) is absolutely deserving of the rave reviews that have been pouring in. The actual author of the books (Daniel Handler) created the sceenplay of this brilliant edition.
The Scenery: Magnificent--often blending bright colors with dreary situations.
The Story: Wonderfully quirky and extreme and strange--yet effectively delivered by an amazing cast.
The Characters: Unique. Strong. As I said, an AMAZING cast!
An Exhilarating Anime
5/5 [Action, Anime] Ajin
This anime rendition of Ajin (found on Netflix) is fantastic. I haven't seen one this masterfully done since Psychopass.
The Animation: A little off-putting at first, but I swiftly got use to it
The Story: Mysterious, engaging, and fast-paced
The Characters: Strong. Well-developed. Kept suprising me!
There is No Doom in This Review
5/5 [Fantasy, Novel] The Doom Brigade
This novel of Dragonlance's The Chaos War Series, Kang's Regiment, The Doom Brigade, is everything a fantasy book should be! Margaret Weis and Don Perrin strike gold with this brilliantly woven tale about loyalty, hope, and survival. You don't need to read anything before it!
The Writing: Absolutely a masterpiece. Dry humor, wit, and magnificent descriptions abound!
The Story: Easy to follow, well-crafted, and deep.
The Characters: Marvelously strong, well-developed (even the secondary characters!), and memorable!
A Family Cartoon for Adults
5/5 [Comedy, Cartoon] Bob's Burgers
Wow, what can I say? This one (can be found on Netflix) really surprised me. It had a refreshing amount of depth and character-based humor, and each season just gets stronger.
The Writing: Is so much better than many of those other adult cartoons. This one is witty, clever, and fun.
The Story: An adult cartoon that isn't wholly episodic! It's the funny and amusing tale of a family attempting to save their burger joint.
The Characters: Actually grow! Yes, people, an adult cartoon with morals and depth!
I'll Just Keep Watching It
5/5 [Comedy, Movie] Finding Dory
Ok, somehow I missed this baby when it hit theaters. Who knows. Life. But my low expectations (it's a sequel so...) were unfounded! The brilliant writers and voice actors made the story cute, funny, and heart-warming.
The Writing: Wonderful! Heart-warming, cute, and funny--one of those cartoon movies you can kickback with your loved ones and enjoy again and again!
The Story: At times predictable, but overall moving and memorable.
The Characters: Cute, funny, and well-intertwined with the humor and nostalgia of Finding Nemo!
We'll do this again in March! Yay!

Excellent suggestions. My girls are on their second viewing of the Series of Unfortunate Events. They loved it. And I'm a Bob's Burgers fan through and through. I will be checking out Ajin. It was in my queue but I hadn't watched it yet. Did you check out Seven Deadly Sins yet? Any good? What about the new live action Ghost in the Shell? How do you feel about that? It looks crazy nuts!
I have not watched Seven Deadly Sins--it is on my queue! I'm really focusing on Supernatural right now (SO BEHIND! XD) And I'm also very unfamiliar with Ghost in the Shell. The movie looks ok--I'm a little skeptical. But then, live action anime movies tend to... well, fall pretty short XD
